2008 was hot, 2009-2010 even hotter

Thanks for checking back, we really appreciate it.

Hmmm, nope, no global warming to see here.

Oh, wait.

NASA shows us how warm it is.
NASA GISS 2008
The image below is frightening for the fact it shows the temps over Siberia and the North Pole to be warming way more than anywhere else. That means more ice and permafrost melt = more warming.
NASA GISS

From the NYT and WSJ:

From January 2008 to January 2009, the planet warmed a remarkable 0.37°C (see data here). This is 20 times (!) the annual rate of warming in recent decades and 20 times what most climate models have projected we should be experiencing.

Further:

They further predict the year 2014 will “be 0.30° ± 0.2°C warmer than the observed value for 2004,”

This means that there is a 50% chance that the warming from 2004 to 2014 will be 3/8 that of the warming of the previous century. i.e. 50% chance that half of 100 years of warming will be achieve in 10 years. Seems as though we’re hitting tipping points.

On top of that, we have NASA saying new global temp records will likely be set in the next couple of years, with:

Given our expectation of the next El Niño beginning in 2009 or 2010, it still seems likely that a new global temperature record will be set within the next 1-2 years, despite the moderate negative effect of the reduced solar irradiance.

So, despite decreased solar activity, we’re probably in for even hotter temperatures:

Given our expectation of the next El Niño beginning in 2009 or 2010, it still seems likely that a new global temperature record will be set within the next 1-2 years, despite the moderate negative effect of the reduced solar irradiance.

Still need convincing?

Don’t know where you get your data from. The global average temperature has not moved since 1998. It snowed in London last year for the first time in October for neigh on 100 years. That has to be global cooling doesn’t it. But that’s not the point. CO2 increases are a symptom of warming – not the cause. By promoting carbon emissions as the cause is not only assisting governments to set up more taxation avenues but by encouraging emissions trading is going to allow the same folk who gave us the sub-prime mortgage scam a chance to set up the emissions trading scam.

My mother always told made to be careful what you wish for.

Hi JDM, thanks for your comment
Unfortunately, you’re wrong. This has been debunked everywhere. I can’t even begin to reference sites that debunk this rubbish, but you can start with Tamino: http://tamino.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/dangerous-curves/

Please don’t reference McIntyre, Wattsupwiththat.com or Pielke. All debunked.

Great it snowed. That’s weather. Not climate. Is the difference clear to you?

As opposed to glaciers disappearing, Arctic ice disappearing, rain not falling (hello Australia), species and flora moving…it’s pretty obvious right? Right? NO?! Oh dear.

I can see you have a GW-as-a-tax-measure conspiracy cape on. That’s cool, but it’s frogshit and a furphy.

(And I get to swear coz I run the site).

    Cheers

Rain is falling in Australia. Flinders Island – the one in Bass Strait – had over 200mm in September. (pers conv DJ Harris – Palana) St Helens on the East Coast of Tassy has had over twice that. SEQ has been inundated in at least three deluges this last wet season. The Wimmera River is flowing at Dimboola for the first time this decade. Lake Eyre filled for the 1st time in over 15 years this year. I agree, the patterns are changing. Everything is bigger, hotter, wetter, windier, wilder and colder. Don’t forget colder. CO2 levels are a symptom of this, not the cause. CO2 stored in the lower colder layers of the oceans store humungous amounts of CO2. They release it as ‘weather’ driven currents bring the lower layers to the surface – see hotter, windier, wilder above. What I’m saying is that by becoming obsessed with carbon emissions we run the risk of missing the real cause.

Do you ever suspect that there are just too many people on the planet and we’re asking too much of it? Start a crusade on birth control and you’ll go a long way to solving some of the world’s problems. As for the financial of all this – you seem to have an abnormal amount of faith the altruism of the G20. Certainly a lot more than I do.

    Hi JDM.
I am not going into this with you so this is my last response, you can read why I won’t here: http://greenfyre.wordpress.com/2008/09/09/why-wont-al-gore-debate-climate-change/ and here: http://greenfyre.wordpress.com/2009/01/17/explain-apologise-but-never-debate/.

I’m not surprised rain is falling in Australia (where I live, in Melbourne). Rain falls.

Have a look at the long term average. Check the BoM commentary on recent drought (i.e. it’s not a drought anymore – THIS is the new normal).

SEQ’s deluges are characteristic of climate change. Byron has become sub tropical. More crazy weather and storms.

I agree re population and consumption. Unfortunately, people ain’t gonna stop having babies until they get more educated – poorer education standards = more babies.

You agree with me judging by your comments.

As for this “The Wimmera River is flowing at Dimboola for the first time this decade. Lake Eyre filled for the 1st time in over 15 years this year”.
Take some time to re-read this.

If you are unfamiliar with how CO2e acts as a GH agent, check out any IPCC AR literature. Or google it.

The G20 is irrelevant, I make no commentary on it.

The planet is NOT getting colder. Dear God if you believe that you’ll believe anything.

I’ll not be responding further as it is pointless.

    Thanks for the comment.

I advise you go debate Tamino, Greenfyre, Barry Breen, Gavin Schmidt (just google them for their sites) where you can play all day.

Thanks for all that Tim. Actually you picked me in one – I’m a recent convert. I was only a month ago as sure as you that all the extreme weather events were due to human generated global warming. But then I came across Ian Plimer’s Heaven+Earth: The Missing Science. this led me to the wealth of scientific data that has been ridiculed by the IPCC. I’m three score years and 10, so I won’t be around to see the land collapse into the ocean. But I’ll pass on knowing that it just ain’t gunna happen anyway.

By the sound of your bouncy attitude you’re of the generation that knows it all. Check out the science son. The real science. Not the pop science peddled by a bunch of witch doctors at the IPCC. I hope for the sake of the planet that everyone comes to their senses. There’s a role there for you Tim. remember the millennium bug that never was? That was only nine years ago. And here we go again. How gullible are we as a species? Gullible enough to be at the heart of the next big extinction?

Next time you’re up in Steak & Kidney take a walk around Circular Quay. Take in the plaques in the pavement. One of them is a quote from James A Michener. It’s one of my favourites.

“Mankind was destined to live on the edge of perpetual disaster. We are mankind because we survive. We do it in a half-assed way, but we do it.”

And I’ll be in touch with those names you gave me – between afternoon naps. Good luck Tim.

    Debunked.

Your sarcasm and snide condescending attitude do you no favours.

Sure, let’s live on the edge of disaster that we own responsibility for, because someone said so.

Here’s my favourite quote: “go away and busy yourself with witch doctor geologists”. Witch doctor IPCC indeed, you’re funny one, son.

    Good luck!

    G’day Tim,

I’m sorry Tim. I’ll try to be more serious, as I’m sure you’ll agree, the situation demands.

Thanks for all those addresses. I found them very revealing. They led me indirectly to one that debunked the “hockey stick” theory on global warming. Which I’m sure you’ll agree is a step in the right direction. Try -

    http://www.climateaudit.org

in fact the more I learn about the science of global climate drivers the more confusing, and sadly contradictory, it all becomes. Could I respectfully suggest that we all should do a lot more analysis of the data. In fact, I’d go so far as to say, before we spend another penny on emissions control, we thoroughly review all the theories behind the conclusions driving policy before we make an absolute mess of it.

I agree with you Tim, we may only get one crack at this, so let’s make sure we get it right. Remember we went to war in Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) were in the hands of a madman. Saddam Hussein may have been mad – but there were no WMDs. It was based on misrepresented data or if you like, out and out frogshit. Now the US is spending US$3 billion a a week and we can’t see ourselves getting out of it, at least not with any honour or credibility. That money would go a long way in Samoa or Padang right now.
