Why are mums so inspirational and amazing

This has nothing to do (directly) with snowboarding, only to do with humanity’s capacity for amazing action. Some of my posts have been a bit of a bummer of late, so thought I’d put something up a bit more light-hearted and inspirational.

To survive, we must change everything, now.

“When we look back, 2008 will be a momentous year in human history. Our children and grandchildren will ask us, ‘What was it like? What were you doing when it started to fall apart? What did you think? What did you do?’ Often in the middle of something momentous, we can’t see its significance. But for me there is no doubt: 2008 will be the marker — the year when ‘The Great Disruption’ began.”

It’s a great point. What will you be able to say when your grandkids ask “what did you do to help?”.

I sure as hell will be saying: “Everything I could.”

Heresy Austria Launch + Bushfire Fundraiser report

Ok, first of all, serious props to Heresy’s Jaye F and her 3degrees women’s ski team (that’s right beeyartches we’re sponsoring a SKI team) for running our Austrian launch plus bushfire fundraiser – which by the way raised a very respectable AUD$1500 for the Red Cross’s Victorian Bushfire appeal. Awesome.

The Effects of Climate Change – a reality check

This is why we must act, or else we risk destroying everything we take for granted – like the surf and waves, the amazing forests, the amazing animals, the MAGIC you felt the first time snow fell on your cold face and bare skin, as you marvelled at the snow flake, that seemed to be made just for you.

How are sharks related to climate change?

Are we setting ourselves up for a fish-free diet through over fishing?

Heresy Product Cull

We’ve been doing a fair bit of soul searching recently, and have decidedly, somewhat sadly and relunctantly to cull (at least as formal product releases) our beanies, scarves, trackie dacks and thermals. I’m a little sad about dropping all of these as they were all very, very good products. The feedback on all of them has always been very solid.

Arctic sea ice will probably not recover

Thanks for checking back, we really appreciate it.From the very excellent 2 year study International Polar Year we have this report on Arctic sea ice melt.
Why does this matter? More heat = less ice = more heat….you get the drift. Our planet is warming up. MY SNOW SEASONS ARE UNDER THREAT, and this does not [...]

2008 was hot, 2009-2010 even hotter

Hmmm, nope, no global warming to see here.
Oh, wait.
NASA shows us how warm it is.

The image below is frightening for the fact it shows the temps over Siberia and the North Pole to be warming way more than anywhere else. That means more ice and permafrost melt = more warming.

From the NYT and WSJ:
