So long and thanks for all the shoes (Heresy is shutting its doors)

After 7 (close to 8) years in operation, Heresy Snowboarding will be ceasing operation for the foreseeable future.

We’ve battled to stay a small, people and quality-focussed company operating on a budget; but without the mass market capital and huge scale and marketing budget, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to ship inventory globally in a cost effective manner as well as constantly providing uncompromisingly good designs. Given the high overheads in design, inventory and so on, we need to make a lot of sales – this is not happening.

Anti-global warming/CC Debunking

Anti global warming or climate change proponents (some call them crackpots…I suppose some like Andrew Bolt are) really make it easy these days. I totally concede that skepticism in science is needed, but:
1. We only have one Earth – the risks in listening to denialists are way, WAY too high
2. There is overwhelming evidence to refute denialist claims.

Obama gets it (green jobs)

I am seriously stoked on Obama. Not only is he going to save our snow seasons (indirectly), he is going to save the world. Or, at least actually try. The last two years have seen a marked turnaround in leadership, especially in the US and Australia – 2 countries that could be badly affected by global warming and climate change.

Inaction Frustration – it’s not easy being sustainable

But at the end of this arid late-summer afternoon, Schendler is feeling anything but triumphant. He pulls a company sedan to the side of a dirt road and turns off the motor. “Who are we kidding?” he says, finally. Despite all his exertions, the resort’s greenhouse-gas emissions continue to creep up year after year. More vacationers mean larger lodgings burning more power. Warmer winters require tons of additional artificial snow, another energy drain. “I’ve succeeded in doing a lot of sexy projects yet utterly failed in what I set out to do,” Schendler says. “How do you really green your company? It’s almost f—— impossible.

Why China and the US hold the key to saving our snow

It’s not often I get angry and despairing. I try and remain optimistic (try). But after reading this article I got angry(er).

India disappearing under the ocean: video

Kinda makes me being worried about being able to go snowboarding a little redundant at that point. When people are directly affected and lose their livelihoods and land, skiing and snowboarding kind of seems unimportant all of a sudden.

Sustainable job opportunies abound

One of the interesting things about the move to sustainability in life and industry has been the question of “green” jobs, and whether the move/shift will cost jobs. Ecogeek has a great article on this here.

Saving Earth: we will not give up

This Earth and inhabitants need saving. I’m going to do my best to help save it, and if you’re not with me, get the f#ck out my way, or I will bulldoze you away. This is not the time for niceties, or diplomacy.

I will not remit. I will not cease. I will hunt down those who seek to deny, delay, obfuscate, the saving of the Planet I love, and I will tear you apart.

I will die on my feet rather than live on my knees. My conscience and all the beings yet to walk this Earth and behold its beauty demand this of me, of us.
