Clif Bar recall – we love Clif Bar

Clif Bar have voluntarily recalled all their peanut butter-related bars due to a salmonella scare from one of their manufacturers (this has affected a lot of companies in the US).

Heresy just wanted to make a couple of points about how this has been handled, which shows why we love Clif Bars as an energy source for our snowboarding (and cycling) so much, and why they’re one of the few brands we really love to Love.

We were contacted about this to warn us – very proactive.
Although Clif hasn’t had any affected customers, they chose to recall all peanut bars, and to offer replacement or refund.

Since we’re in Australia, we chose refund. The cost to ship bars here is pretty expensive (about AUD$100/USD$65 through USPS in the quantities we want them). Under normal circumstances, Clif would probably be within their rights to just refund the purchase.

Instead, we just got an email saying they’d be refunding us for 112 bars and for the shipping. No questions (well we had to provide a receipt and details of the use-by-date on the bars as well as where we got them from).

This is an awesome example of how a company should handle this. No nitpicking, no questions. Get a receipt and proof and then refund. They admitted the problem, and made it clear how they were handling and solving it.

Just thought we’d share this to show what a rad company they are. Check them out. They rule over Mars Bars and trail mix and are all eco/green and organic.
